MotoGP’s first trip to Indy ended with an unplanned visit from hurricane Ike on race day, but the weather leading up to that point was reasonably okay. Thursday was still dry, which allowed for the fan pit walk to go without incident. As it turned out, the fans weren’t the only spectators as a couple of factory Yamaha mechanics found themselves in front of the factory Honda garage, up close but with arms respectfully folded, and admiring the prototype machinery just like everyone else. Although I was not officially working as a photographer at the time, this remains one of my favorite race weekend images.
